Since 1978, AEDC has made loans to support local business and community endeavors. In 2015, an HSU student went through files as far as 1984 to gather a comprehensive list of loans made to date. From 1984, to June 30, 2019, AEDC has approved over $91 million in loans in our region. Of those over $71.7.1M have been business loans made directly or through partnerships (for example City of Arcata CDBG Small Business Loans underwritten and serviced by AEDC). The additional funds, about $17.3 million have been for community development projects like the Open Door Community Health Center, Arcata Fire Department, the Jefferson Project or the Eureka Rescue Mission.
This map notes the commercial dollars loaned in AEDC's service area from 1984 through June 30, 2016. The site locations include city halls and county administrative offices or other facilities in which local business is done. It is simply a marker to represent the community.
Cities that have had a minimum of five loans are colored red. Their totals represent the total number of loans specific to that city's zip code. If a city has fewer than five loans, the loans were compiled by county. Those are marked as blue.
As an example, a loan made in Eureka is counted only in the Eureka city marker, not Humboldt County. A loan made in Willow Creek would be counted in Humboldt County because there are fewer than five loans in that community.
